Allegheny Surveys is honored to have won First Place in the Civil/Survey Map Contest held at the Annual Hexagon World Wide Users Conference in Las Vegas.  This was the most competitive category, having 11 map entries from all over the world (including India and Italy).  Leica announced that the competition was so close that a 5-way tie for first place occurred during their first round of voting on a winner.  It took 3 rounds of discussion and voting before the Leica judges could finally settle on a winner for this category.

The map that won the contest was a 110 acre site survey prepared for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the Mohawk Dam.  This project is highlighted under the Case Studies section of our website.  The project was surveyed using our Leica C10 Scan Station 3D Laser Scanner.  In order to enter the contest, Allegheny Surveys needed to add screen capture images of the point cloud data onto the mapping.  With the help of his crew, Damon Wilkewitz performed the laser scanning on this project.  Damon also drafted the map in AutoCAD.  He accepted the First Place plaque at an Awards Banquet Luncheon on June 4th. Click here to view the winning map

June 2014

On Thursday June 5th, Damon was a speaker at the conference and discussed some of the Laser Scanning projects that Allegheny Surveys has done for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  The projects highlighted in his session were the Delaware Dam, Dover Dam, and the Mohawk Dam (in Ohio), and the Bluestone Dam (in West Virginia).
